At a recent event, Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal said that he finds IRCTC’s name difficult to remember and has already asked officials to change it.
He also mentioned that the name is not catchy enough for the organization.
A railway official said, “The Minister has asked us to suggest alternative names to IRCTC. We are awaiting directions from the Railway Board on how to go about renaming the organisation. It will be a long-drawn process as the new name will have to be registered as well.”
A few months ago, Narendra Modi government’s official website ‘mygov.in’ had also put up a contest asking people to suggest a new name for IRCTC.
According to a senior official, IRCTC had received around 1852 options, out of which 700 names were shortlisted.
