In a remarkable step that will ensure passenger comfort while travelling, the railway board has authorised IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) to sell its food items at platforms as well.
This decision was taken after repeated complaints from passengers about not being able to buy food during long travel at major and intermediate stations.
This move will ensure hygienic food supply for passengers at authorised food plazas across platforms.
Currently, the packed food available at platforms are mostly sold by either unauthorised vendors or small catering contractors. These food items are poor in quality.
Official sources said, “The IRCTC authorised food plazas can cook the food at their base kitchens set up at stations and serve quality food.”
