It is the first and the only bridge in India that has been made adhering to European welding standards. The double-decker bridge, fourth across the Brahmaputra, has two railway lines on the lower deck and a three-lane road on the upper.

The bridge, which also happens to be Asia’s second longest rail-and-road connector, has a lifespan of around 120 years.

With the opening of the bridge, rail journey from Dibrugarh to Itanagar has been cut by 750 kilometres. It has also cut down train travel between Delhi and Dibrugarh by 3 hours.

The bridge will further play a crucial role in defence movement along the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh. It is strong enough to withstand movement of heavy military tanks and fighter jets.
