The initiative, in collaboration with the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), has set up meal counters at over 100 stations and approximately 150 counters across the Indian Railways network, with plans for further expansion.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by passengers in unreserved coaches, especially during the summer months, the official stated, “We aim to address the needs of passengers by offering convenient and budget-friendly meal options.”
These meal counters are strategically located near general second class (GS) coaches on platforms for easy access.
Two meal categories are available: an economy meal priced at Rs.20 and a snack meal at Rs.50. Passengers can directly purchase refreshments from these counters, eliminating the hassle of searching for vendors or leaving the station premises.
The official highlighted the successful pilot of the service at 51 stations last year, leading to its significant expansion. With counters now operational at over 100 stations and nearly 150 counters in total, the initiative is set to expand further, encompassing more stations in the near future.
