Series of initiatives have been taken by the Indian Railways to ensure a smooth travel experience in the peak summer months. A number of special trains have already been launched and many are in the pipeline to be pressed into service in the coming weeks. Railways have ensured that first reservation chart will be finalised at least 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the trains.
After finalisation of the first reservation chart, you can book your tickets through window booking facility or internet till the preparation of the second chart, which is 30 minutes before departure. To ensure that maximum passengers are provided with accommodation, vacant berths will be transferred to the next en-route station.
If you have booked your ticket online, you can change your boarding point through the IRCTC website 24 hours before the scheduled departure time of the train. Also, through online booking, you can avail wheelchair facility without paying any extra charges. Retiring rooms, food and disposable bedrolls can also be booked online.
Under the Vikalp Scheme rolled by the Indian Railways on April 1st, waitlisted passengers are given the option of accommodation in any other train, including trains like Rajdhani or Shatabdi, without paying any extra cost.
