In an effort to ensure punctuality, Indian Railways is collaborating with ISRO to enable real-time tracking of trains. This project will be implemented using GPS, ISRO satellites, CCTVs and WiFi, and is scheduled to be completed by March 2020.
As per reports, by the end of the current fiscal year, all locomotives of Indian Railways will be GPS enabled. This move comes as a part of the Real-time Train Information System (RTIS).
Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav said that the train’s position and speed will be relayed through ISRO satellites to the Indian Railways’ Control Office Application (COA) system.

Besides this, CCTVs have also been fitted in train kitchens to enable live streaming of the ongoing activities. All major railway stations and mail/express trains in the country will also have WiFi facilities by September 2020.
