Indian Railways plans to upgrade general coaches of long distance trains with AC

The general coaches of Indian railways will be reconditioned to make long distance travel easy and comfortable for passengers. By 2022, the Indian Railways plans to provide temperature-controlled service or air-cold in all categories of long distance trains. This information was received from the Vision Document Indian Railway Vision and Plan 2017-2022, that was released by the Ministry of Railways on 7th August 2017. The Vision Document also states various steps that will be taken to protect the railway passengers.

According to the Vision Document, the Railways will provide safe travel to the passengers by adopting ‘Near Zero Fatality’ performance. For the satisfaction of the customers, the railways is committed to upgrade the infrastructure of its stations and IRCTC trains, to train its employees and to harness technology for betterment.

Also, as per the Vision Document, the Railways are proud to contribute 1.5 per cent of the country’s GDP and for this, the infrastructure will be set up to achieve 40 per cent share of the country’s total freight. In order to fulfill this vision, the focus of the railways will be on the revenue received apart from the rent. Apart from this, upgrading the infrastructure and providing better facilities to the passengers will also be focussed upon.
