With its vast railway network, the Indian Railways is playing a major role in solving the supply chain challenges caused by the nationwide lockdown.
More than 788,000 railway wagons have transported essentials to keep the supply chain functional between March 23 and April 14. Out of these, more than 515,000 wagons carried commodities like foodgrains, sugar, milk, salt, edible oil, fruits, vegetables and petroleum products.
Along with this, the production units, workshops and field units of Railways have started manufacturing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) coveralls to fight against the coronavirus. These coveralls will be used for medical and health-care workers who work directly with infected patients.
The national transporter will manufacture 30,000 such coveralls in April and as many as 1,00,000 coveralls in May.
