The rain will likely continue over the next few days, increasing the chances of landslides and flash floods.

A heavy rain warning has been put in particularly for the areas of Pune, Kolhapur and Satara. Apart from these, IMD (India Meteorological Department) has also predicted heavy rains in Nashik, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Aurangabad and Jalna in Maharashtra. Rains are likely to extend till July 22-23 for all ghat areas in the Konkan-Goa area.

Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather, IMD Pune, has said that that two active monsoon impulses are coming from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. He further added that, “Both systems are likely to pass through Maharashtra, especially via Marathwada and Vidarbha, and thus their effect on the state is expected to be intense. Ghat areas have been put on a heavy rain warning from Friday evening,”.

People have been advised to avoid travelling on the highways this weekend, beginning today.
