In the next five years, Indian Railways will undertake several major projects under the ‘New India’ vision.
These projects will focus on safety, infrastructure, enhancing passenger amenities and increased speed of trains.
Take a look at the five big developments that will change the face of Indian Railways by 2022:
1. The Railway Ministry has planned to complete the conversion of all viable tracks to broad gauge by 2022.
2. The Government will ensure electrification of all the railway tracks by 2022. The remaining 13,675 route km of railway tracks will cost around Rs.12,134 crore.
3. Another major development includes smart railway stations across the country. Other than the stations being upgraded and beautified, they will also get an airport-like makeover with modern facilities in the coming years.

5. The national transporter is expected to complete the freight corridor project by 2022. Under this project, the movement of goods will become much easier and cheaper.
