Free Wi-Fi Service At 5 Railway Stations

Google in collaboration with RailTel has launched free high-speed Wi-Fi service at Jaipur, Ujjain, Allahabad, Patna and Guwahati Railway Stations. The launch is a part of it’s project to provide free Wi-Fi service at 100 busiest stations by the end of 2016.

It is known that the service is now live and available at 15 stations across the country, where millions of users can make use of it on a daily basis. Also, Google announced last month about launch of free Wi-Fi service in nine railway stations across Indian; the first station to have the service was Mumbai Central in January.

The month of April saw extension of free high-speed Wi-Fi service at the following stations:

  • Mumbai Central
  • Kacheguda (Hyderabad)
  • Bhubaneswar
  • Raipur
  • Vishakhapatnam
  • Ernakulum Jn (Kochi)
  • Pune
  • Ranchi
  • Bhopal
  • Vijayawada
  • After the amazing response to the service by users in Mumbai Central, Google has plans to extend the project to key suburban stations in Mumbai. RailTel and Google will deploy the service in railway stations such as Borivali, Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus, Bandra Terminus, Thane, Panvel, Churchgate, Dadar, Kurla, Kalyan, Vashi and few others.

As per Gulzar Azad, Google India Head of Access Programs, “We are seeing incredible usage of the Wi-Fi service across the stations and over 2.5 lakh users are using the service every week, demonstrating more than 2x growth in less than a month”.

It is said that the project will eventually cover 400 stations across India and deliver the service to 10 million Indians every day by the end of this year, covering 100 busiest train stations in the country.

With the successful launch of this service, both visitors passing through these stations and travellers waiting at the stations and would be able to easily download a book, game or stream a high definition video conveniently.
