To honour the brave animals who have served in the armed forces and sacrificed their lives for the country, India’s first war memorial for animals is being set up in Meerut. It will be devoted to dogs, horses as well as mules.
The memorial will be built at the Remount and Veterinary Corps (RVC) Centre and College in Meerut where the army breeds, rears and trains dogs, mules and horses.

Search FlightsDogs serving in the Indian Army are trained in explosive detection, mine detection, tracking, rescue operations, guarding and attacking. Mules enable logistics supply in the most adverse conditions and horses play a key role in carrying rations to remote posts where vehicles do not reach.
The memorial will have granite tablets containing names and service numbers of more than 300 dogs, 350 handlers and a few horses and mules. Approval for the same is expected soon from the Defence Ministry.
