Kumbh Mela is expected to witness a record number of people this week. From the 4th to the 10th of February, this week includes some of the major festivities at Kumbh this year. It started off with the most auspicious of all sacred bathing days at the Kumbh Mela, the Mauni Amavasya.

February 4th (Monday): Mauni Amavasya
Over 5 crore devotees took a dip at the holy sangam yesterday, making it the biggest confluence of human faith ever. The date assumed greater significance because it fell on a Monday. Mauni Amavasya is a new moon day in the Hindu calendar of the Magha month.

The fast is supposedly performed by women and girls for receiving Goddess Parvati’s infinite grace.
February 10th (Sunday): Vasant Panchami/ Third Shahi Snan
Vasant Panchami is a major Hindu festival celebrated on the 5th day of the month of ‘Magh’. Apart from celebrating the onset of the spring season, this day also holds significance for being the 3rd and the last shahi snan of this year’s Kumbh mela.
