23 special trains introduced, 38 services restored

A massive rush for advance bookings begins in September every year for the upcoming festive season. This year is no different, with train reservations rising rapidly, kicked off by high demand for travel to the Konkan region due to Ganesh Chaturthi.

Seeing the rise in bookings, the Indian Railways has announced several special trains on congested routes to clear the extra rush. You can check details for the new trains below, and book tickets directly on ixigo!

23 new trains

> Three pairs of trains to and from Punjab have been notified on the following routes: Delhi–Moga–Delhi, Delhi–Lohian Khas–Delhi and Firozpur Cantt.–Agartala–Firozpur Cantt. Check timetables here:

The Konkan Railway will be running 13 additional trains to clear the rush for Ganesh Chaturthi. Check the train numbers and timings:

> Train no.s 07305/07306 between Mysuru and Dr MGR Chennai Central will begin operations from September 21. These are daily reserved special trains, and you can see timings here:

> Train no.s 09138/09137 between Vadodara and Dahanu Road will begin operations from September 3. These are daily reserved superfast special trains. See details below: 

38 restored services

> Two Duronto trains between Mumbai and Delhi have been restored. Train no. 09009 Mumbai Central–New Delhi Special will now run every Monday and Friday, starting September 3. Similarly, train no. 09010 New Delhi–Mumbai Central Special will run every Tuesday and Saturday from September 4, said the Western Railway on Twitter.

The railway zone also made a larger announcement about many additional, restored and extended pairs of special trains it will be running, due to increased passenger demand. Details here:

> Train no.s 05712/05711 between Katihar and Howrah have been restored until further advice. These are weekly special trains. The Katihar–Howrah leg will run every Monday starting today (August 30) while the Howrah–Katihar leg will run every Tuesday starting from tomorrow, August 31. See the timings and station list here: 

> A much-needed pair of special trains was reintroduced yesterday between Jiribam (one of two railway stations in Manipur) and Silchar in Assam, to strengthen the rail network in northeast India. Train no.s 05659/05660 will offer affordable long-distance transport between the two states. Bookings are yet to open on this route.
