Whatever the reason may be, it’s important to know your rights as a flyer and the compensation you are entitled to receive in such situations:

> As per DGCA norms, if you are denied boarding, the airline must provide you with an alternate flight within an hour at no additional cost or refund the full amount of the ticket.

In addition, the airline is required to compensate you for any inconvenience caused due to denied boarding. This compensation can include the cost of meals, refreshments, and accommodation if required.

If the airline is able to provide the alternate arrangement within the next 24 hours, a compensation upto ₹10,000 is prescribed. A compensation upto ₹20,000 is laid down for anything beyond 24 hours.

> It’s important to note that compensation is not automatically provided, and you must request it from the airline. If the airline is unwilling to provide the compensation, you can file a complaint with the aviation regulator or seek legal action.

In conclusion, being denied boarding can be frustrating, but you have rights as a flyer. Knowing these rights and the compensation you are entitled to receive can help you assert your claims.
