Delhi to Mumbai in 12 hours? Yes, no kidding! You might just want to pinch yourself, but this is going to happen for real.
Train passengers will soon be able to experience the fast train journey in India as Indian Railways is all set to ship Spain’s high-speed Talgo Series-9 train S-130 to Mumbai.
Known for its fast and light trains, Talgo expressed its interest in shipping their Spanish high-speed train to India, that too at their own cost.
Talgo’s variable-gauge train will initially be tested for a speed of up to 200 km/hr. Presently, Rajdhani Express takes approximately 16 hours to cover the Delhi-Mumbai Route (1,384 km stretch). It is believed that the high-speed train will cut short the travel time between the national capital and Mumbai to 12 hours. Now, that’s big!
Besides reducing travel time, the superfast train is believed to consume 30% less energy, thereby reducing railways’ power bill. Also, once the train is put on trial, there won’t be any requirement of overhauling the tracks.
With this new train, the travel time will be cut short by 4 hours. In case, this Delhi to Mumbai train test is successful, there are chances of having more such trains on board for other routes. Some of these trains are already running in the US and Asia.
