Coronavirus outbreak: To discourage all non-essential travel and prevent senior citizens from travelling, Indian Railways is suspending concessional tickets for the majority of its categories.
Patients, students and Divyangjan category are exempt from this. This rule applies to both unreserved and reserved segment in trains.
According to sources, out of 53 categories, presently concessions can be availed only on 15 categories. For the rest 38, the concession is temporarily withdrawn until further notice.
Railways have taken multiple steps to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
- Previously, railways have already cancelled over 150 low occupancy trains to avoid overcrowding.
- Additionally, the national transporter has also increased the price of platform ticket to Rs.50 on many stations to limit travel.
- Railways issued several travel advisories for its passengers, food units and staff members guiding them towards preventive measures.
- The Railway staff is trained to spot the symptoms of Coronavirus and provide medical assistance to those in need.
