In a significant move, the Indian government has suspended toll collection on all national highways to ease the flow of emergency services amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said, ‘In the view of COVID-19, it has been ordered to temporarily suspend the collection of toll at all toll plazas across India.’
This move aims to reduce any inconvenience caused to emergency services as well as save time. However, maintenance work for roads will continue as usual.
In the last few days, traffic has drastically reduced on the highways, and the movement is primarily restricted to transport of essential goods and services only.
Amidst the lockdown, we request everyone to cooperate with the authorities and stay indoors.
