Ma Zhanwu, Chinese Consul General in Kolkata, in a recent interview announced that China is willing to introduce bullet train service from Kunming to Kolkata. The train will pass through Myanmar and Bangladesh.
He further added, with joint efforts from India and China, a high-speed rail link will be established and it will just take a few hours to reach from Kunming to Kolkata.
The rail route aims at boosting trade flow in Bangladesh – China – India – Myanmar (BCIM) corridor. China has been trying to revive the Silk Route and increase connectivity from Kunming to Kolkata. Mr. Zhanwu said the project is all about “shared benefits and development” through consultations and discussions.
