The Chennai-Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the MGR Chennai Central Railway Station in Chennai.

It operates at a speed of 130 kmph in the Chennai–Jolarpettai section, allowing it to reach both destinations in just 5 hours 50 minutes and saving one hour and 20 minutes of travel time.

The fare for Vande Bharat Express (Train no. 20643) from Chennai to Coimbatore is ₹1365, which includes an optional catering charge of ₹308. The Executive Class fare between both stations is ₹2485, which also includes a catering charge of ₹369. The fare for Train no. 20644 Vande Bharat Express is ₹1215 for Chair Car and includes a catering charge of ₹157, while the Executive Class fare is ₹2310, which includes a catering charge of ₹190.

The train, the first to connect two cities of Tamil Nadu, has enhanced passenger safety with the indigenous automatic train protection system ‘KAVACH’, CCTV cameras in all coaches, and automatic sliding doors.

Divyang (differently-abled) friendly washrooms, seat handle numbers in Braille script, modern amenities like LED lights, and 360-degree rotatable seats are some of the other features. Other trains, including the Chennai-Bangalore Shatabdi, will also experience a significant reduction in travel time starting in June.
