Breathtaking! 5 Aerial Photos from ‘Mauni Amavasya’ at Kumbh Mela 2019

 

On the occasion of ‘Mauni Amavasya’ yesterday, a sea of devotees braved the fog and cold by taking a dip in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati river.

Did you know? According to officials, till 9AM over 1.81 crore people had already taken the holy dip. Wao!

Note: The occasion of Kumbh witnesses 6 bathing days, including 3 ‘Shahi Snans’. The first ‘Shahi Snan’ was held on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on January 15. The second ‘Shahi Snan’ was yesterday which took place on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, the most sacred of all the bathing days. Lastly, the final ‘Shahi Snan’ will be on February 10 on the occasion of Basant Panchmi, a festival that marks the arrival of spring.

Fascinating Fact: Faithful devotees believe that taking a dip in the confluence of the 3 rivers will not only cleanse their sins but will also help them attain “moksha” by setting them free from the cycle of birth and death.
