As the United Kingdom has reported a potent new strain of the coronavirus that can cause up to a whopping 70% more transmission than the old strain, several countries have cancelled flights to and from the UK. The country has also imposed a nationwide tier-4 lockdown.
Keeping the above developments in mind, the government of India has notified that all flights originating from the UK to India are now cancelled till 23:59 hrs of December 31st, 2020.
The suspension of flights will come into effect from tomorrow, December 22. Flights from India to the UK will also be cancelled during this time.
Along with this, as a safety measure, all passengers arriving from the UK in all including those on transit flights (flights that have taken off or flights which are reaching India before 22nd Dec at 23:59 hrs) will be subjected to mandatory RT-PCR testing on arrival at Indian airports.
Passengers who test positive on arrival will be sent for institutional quarantine set up by the respective state/UT government. Travellers testing negative will be advised to isolate at home for 7 days and will be medically monitored by the concerned States/UT.

India joins a list of countries such as Canada, Turkey, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Netherlands and France that have cancelled flight operations with the United Kingdom. It is expected that more countries will follow suit.
