Lockdown in West Bengal extended; Know what all services will be impacted

In an attempt to contain the spread of COVID-19, a total lockdown will be enforced in West Bengal on September 7, 11 and 12. The state will also be under a  complete lockdown on 31st August.

During the lockdown, only the essential services are allowed. All the other shops will be closed. All the government and private offices, commercial establishments will also be shut. The educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities will remain closed till September 20. 

All the public and private transport will also remain shut during the lockdown. Train operations will remain suspended during the lockdown days. However, petrol pumps are allowed to function on these days.


The domestic flight services from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata will also remain shut on these days. The passengers are requested in advance to contact concerned airlines to change their flight schedule.

Flight Update —

The flight operations from six cities, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Nagpur and Ahmedabad, which have reported huge numbers of COVID-19 cases, would resume from September 1.

“We have received several requests to resume flight operations from six coronavirus hotspot states. So from September 1, flight services from these six states can resume thrice a week,” Banerjee said.
