The construction of the much-awaited Ayodhya International Airport is most likely to be complete by June this year. The terminal building design has been inspired by the Shri Ram Mandir. The airstrip is located eight kilometres away from the temple.

Officially known as the Maryada Purshottam Shri Ram International Airport, the project has witnessed rapid progress and more than 50% of it was completed by December 2022. The work is being carried out by the Airports Authority of India with an overall cost of Rs. 242 crore.
The design of the building will focus on the idea and spirit of Ram Mandir. The terminal roof will depict Shikaras to give the structure a sense of grandeur, and the glass facade will mimic the feeling of being in the very palace of Ayodhya.

As per the reports, the new terminal building is spread across an area of 6,000 square metres and will be able to accommodate 300 passengers during peak hours and six lakh passengers annually. The construction of the airport is expected to promote economic growth in the region.
Currently, the closest airport to Ayodhya is Lucknow, which is roughly three hours away.
