IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) offers concessions to a number of specified categories, thanks to which students can save on train tickets.

For students going to their hometown or availing educational tours
For General category students, Railway offers a 50% concession on tickets and for SC/ST category students, a 75% concession.
NOTE: This discount is valid for seats in second class and sleeper class.

For Govt. school students in rural areas, Railway offers 75% concession on a 2nd class ticket.
For scholars travelling for research work
For scholars (upto 35 years of age) travelling for research work, Railway offers 50% concession on second and sleeper class tickets.
For students appearing for main written examination conducted by UPSC & Central Staff Selection Commissions, Railways offer 50% concession.
For cadets, marine engineers, and research scholars
For such candidates, train travel expenses between home and the training ship are cut by as much as 50% in second and sleeper classes.
