A Vijayawada-departed Air India flight overshot and landed in a pool of mud 10 feet away from the runway at the Mumbai airport on Tuesday. The incident involving 183 people on-board is reported to have happened due to heavy rains.
The incident happened around 2:51 in the afternoon. No passengers were injured during the incident and everybody was evacuated using a safety slide. Fire trucks were also rushed to the site.
Following this scare, the successive flights were asked to go-around for the ground staff to clear the runway. A Jet Airways spokesperson in a late night tweet also informed that all operations to and fro from Mumbai have been suspended for the time being.
