Air India has announced a major upgrade to its non-stop services between Delhi and Tokyo, shifting its operations from Narita International Airport (NRT) to Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) starting March 31, 2025. The move is set to provide faster and more affordable access to central Tokyo, cutting travel time to downtown from nearly an hour to just 30 minutes.
In addition, Air India has expanded its codeshare agreement with All Nippon Airways (ANA), a Star Alliance partner. Effective April 1, 2025, Air India passengers will be able to book seamless connections from Tokyo Haneda to six major cities in Japan—Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Okinawa, Osaka, and Sapporo—on a single ticket with baggage checked through to the final destination.
Reciprocally, ANA will place its flight code on Air India routes from Delhi to Tokyo Haneda and Delhi to key Indian cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Pune, enhancing connectivity between India and Japan.
“Moving to Haneda brings our passengers much closer to the heart of Tokyo, offering greater convenience and better connectivity,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India. “With the expanded ANA partnership, travellers can now explore Japan more easily while ANA customers gain access to Air India’s extensive domestic network.”
The upgraded Delhi-Tokyo Haneda flights will operate four times a week using Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, featuring Business Class flatbeds and spacious Economy seating.
The decision comes amid a surge in Indian travel to Japan, with 233,000 Indians visiting in 2024—a 40% increase from the previous year, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization.
With this move, Air India aims to strengthen India-Japan connectivity, benefiting both business and leisure travellers with greater ease, efficiency, and premium travel experiences.
