As per officials, Indian Railways has increased the monthly limit of ticket booking on IRCTC portal from 6 to 12, only for Aadhaar-verified passengers. This step is an innovative way to encourage passengers to link their Aadhaar numbers to their online accounts on IRCTC. This move came into effect on October 26th, 2017.
According to IRCTC officials, the passengers can continue to book up to six tickets a month if they have not validated their Aadhaar cards. If the number goes beyond six, the Aadhaar number of the user and one of the passengers should be updated in the IRCTC portal, an official explained.
Following are the steps that will help you avail this facility:
-Under ‘my profile’ category on the IRCTC portal, user needs to click on Aadhaar KYC in order to update their Aadhaar numbers.
-In the next step, a one-time password (OTP) will be sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar which needs to be entered for the verification process.
-In addition to this, the Aadhaar number of any one the accompanying passengers should also be updated under the master list. This number will also be validated through an OTP.
Users can store the names of verified passengers accompanying them on the ‘master list’. This should be done before starting the process for booking more than six tickets a month, officials said.
Presently, six passengers can be reserved on a single ticket under general quota while Tatkal bookings allow 4 passengers per ticket on the IRCTC portal.
