Aadhaar Number is not mandatory for booking train tickets but a number of initiatives have been taken by the railways to promote it. Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said, “A reward scheme has also been introduced by IRCTC to incentivise linking of Aadhaar with the user ID”.
The minister also said, that in order to motivate passengers to link their aadhaar ID and mobile number for booking of tickets, railways has limited the number of bookings to 12 tickets. This is for those individuals whose accounts are verified through Aadhaar ID. As per the reports, “no Aadhaar verification is required for booking of up to 6 tickets in a month”.
The reward scheme to incentivise linking of Aadhaar with user ID is likely to motivate users.
