Indian Railways is all set to bring the next generation Maglev Trains that are believed to be two times faster than the proposed bullet train (Mumbai to Ahmedabad). These trains will run on the Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Chennai, and Delhi-Howrah route to ensure more passengers get to travel that too at an affordable fare.
The name Maglev has been derived from magnetic levitation, a system that uses magnetic levitation to operate vehicles without touching the ground.
As per the sources, RITES (an engineering consultant company specialising in transport infrastructure) is given the charge of this project. Besides preparing a feasibility report and DPR (Detailed Project Report), the company will also be responsible for checking the feasibility of this project on PPP (Public-private partnership) model considering the huge investment the project would incur.
A formal proposal has already been sent to the finance department to check the overall expenditure of the project. Once the estimate is prepared, the railways will offer their vacant land for construction.
These super fast trains will for sure bring a revolution in the history of Indian Railways.
