7 Stations To Get Free Wi-Fi

More power to Indian Railways, more power to passengers!

Here’s why:

Lakhs of commuters will be able to enjoy free Wi-Fi service at seven stations in Mumbai, starting today. A passenger can make use of the service at its highest speed for the first 30 min. after which the speed will decrease.

The service will be inaugurated by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu for stations Churchgate, Kalyan, Bandra, Bandra Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Dadar (Central/Western), and Khar.

Wondering how to use the service?

A smartphone is all you need! Register your mobile number on the page of the private telecom operator. Once done, you will receive a one-time password or OTP via message. Enter the OTP on the login page, so you are able to access the free Wi-Fi service for 30 min, post which the speed will dwindle.

If still not clear, please follow the 5 steps given below:

Step 1: All you have to do is to select the Railwire network in your device’s Wi-Fi settings.

Step 2: Once selected the same, open your browser and enter “railwire.co.in” (URL of the railways) into the window.

b

Step 3: You will then be directed to the login screen where you can enter your phone number and click on “receive SMS”.

c

Step 4: A 4-digit OTP code will be sent to you in SMS. Just fill up the code in the Wi-Fi login box and click “done”.

d

Step 5: You can then see a checkmark that’ll let you know that you are connected to the fast, free Wi-Fi.

The authorities are yet to come up with the payment modalities, while the railways intends to charge users for the service post the consumption of the free bandwidth.

According to a railway official, “So far, we are not charging users for Wi-Fi, but the speed will reduce”.

Rohit Desi, a resident of Khar stated, “It’s good that the railways are adding this service. Globally, free Wi-Fi is available everywhere, including malls, railway stations, and restaurants. I’m glad that it’s happening here as well.”

Other developments

It is learnt that Prabhu will also inaugurate foot-over-bridges at King’s Circle, Chembur, Shahad, Reay Road, Kurla, and Karjat.  Also, an air-conditioned dormitory will be inaugurated at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Additionally, the new station building at Borivli, equipped with a deck area and a booking counter will make the entire experience smoother for all commuters.
