1. Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station, commonly known as Chennai Central, is India’s longest station name and the second-longest station name in the world. WOWWW!

2. Odisha has the shortest name of all stations in the entire Indian Railways network. It is called Ib railway station which has derived its name from the Ib River, a tributary of Mahanadi. That’s a cute name 😉

3. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway has been labelled as the slowest train in India. It covers 46 kms in five long hours, at a speed of 9 km/hr. Well, even with this speed, the journey is not worth missing!

4.  An engineering marvel, the Chenab Bridge is the world’s highest rail bridge standing at over 1177 feet above the river bed. FYI, this bridge is 35 meters taller than Paris’ Eiffel Tower.

5. Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi station in Karnataka has the longest railway platform in the world (1507 m).

6. Indian Railways boasts ownership of four World Heritage Sites acknowledged by UNESCO, namely the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (1999), Nilgiri Mountain Railway (2005), Kalka Shimla Railway (2008), and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai (2004).

7. With a workforce exceeding 1.4 million individuals, India’s state-owned railway network stands as the seventh largest employer globally.
