5 Big Steps by Indian Railways to Improve Food Quality

Indian Railway passengers can now look forward to getting better meals on trains. From installing POS materials for onboard catering services to use of biodegradable packaging material, Indian Railways has taken a number of steps for ensuring passenger satisfaction.

According to a recent circular issued by the Railway Board, the full menu for Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto & Mail/Express trains has been completely revised and the prices of meals served in these trains will also go up to ensure quality.

Some of the main steps taken by IRCTC to bring a comprehensive change in the food services on trains are —

1> To ensure quality, IRCTC has issued notices to 47 catering service providers; contracts of 24 providers have been discontinued.

IRCTC catering supervisors have been deployed to monitor food quality in trains.

3> Third-party audit is being done on catering services.

4> CCTV cameras are installed in all kitchens.

5> Onboard billing through POS machines will also be done.
