Minister of State for Communication and Railway, Manoj Sinha said that Indian Railways is planning to run 4,000 special trains for the upcoming festive season from New Delhi and other major cities of India for the convenience of the people.
“In the next 40 days, we will celebrate Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath. So, we are introducing additional trains to facilitate holiday travelling between October 15 and October 30,” Manoj Sinha said.
“The railways will run special trains from different places to popular destinations and also add additional coaches to the existing trains. For Chhath, special services will be introduced from Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad to eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar,” he added.
Also to launch new trains on these given routes, the non-popular trains would be cancelled and extra 9, 500 coaches will be added to the special festival trains to meet the need of the passengers.
Last year, Indian Railways had run 3,800 special trains during the festival season.
“Sufficient arrangements are being made to provide clean drinking water, ambulance, medicines, and wheelchairs. Apart from this, the railways will ensure that the trains run on time so that the passengers don’t have to suffer,” he said.
Sinha, further added that if the passenger rush increases, the sale of the platform tickets will be stopped and use of foot overbridges will be minimized. Even special ticket booking counters have been arranged for reservation of the tickets to avoid chaos.
