Recently, the national transporter has undertaken several new measures to safeguard the health of passengers as well as the Railway staff working day-and-night to ensure seamless services:

1. Safety on the go: Stalls installed to provide COVID kits

Central Railways is installing COVID kit vending stalls at eight stations, with one already functional at the Nagpur railway station. Travellers can buy bed rolls, PPE kits, masks, gloves, sanitizer bottles and even face shields at these self-operated, vending machine style stalls.

2. ‘Gearing’ up the protection: Ticket checking staff to get portable public address systems

To protect frontline staff, Central Railways is now going to provide portable public address (PA) devices to ticket checkers. These PA systems, which can be worn around the neck, will allow the ticket checking staff to regulate and manage passengers without having to come in close contact with them.

3. Top-notch mask and sanitizer dispensing vending machine set up at KSR Bengaluru railway station

To make sure that every passenger carries face masks and sanitizers, a top-notch automatic face mask and sanitizer machine has been set up at the KSR Bengaluru railway station with plans to set up similar ones at all stations under the Bengaluru division.

4. Railways’ develops innovative social distancing device

The Thiruvananthapuram Division of the Southern Railway zone has developed a social distancing device for the safety of on-duty Railways employees. The device will make a warning alarm sound if two or more people wearing it happen to come within a distance of 2-3 metres of each other. The device, which is small enough to attach to ID cards or even wristwatches, will continue to produce the alarm sound until the 3 meters distance is ensured.

The Indian Railways continues to do a commendable job by taking all the necessary steps to ensure the safety of travellers as well as its employees.
