With cold waves engulfing New Delhi, train schedules have largely been affected. As per the latest reports, 12 trains have been cancelled and 15 trains are running late due to zero visibility. Railways has sent out text messages to alert passengers about the delays and the cancellations.
The messaging service was started last month for about 102 premium trains. About 33,08,632 SMSes were sent out by the railways to notify the passengers travelling in Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Tejas and Gatiman Trains about the changes in the schedule. After the success of this service, it has been extended to other trains.
Meanwhile, to increase the visibility for train drivers during winters, Indian Railways is planning to use GPS-enabled fog safety devices. These devices will alert the loco pilot about approaching signals ensuring safety and timely running of trains during this season. Other than this, Railways will also deploy fogmen who will be responsible for placing detonators on the tracks for alerting the loco pilots about the approaching signals. Click here to read more..
